A First Time Teacher's Assistant

Alexi Edmonds, a junior at the University of Iowa recently began preparing for her first semester of being a teacher’s assistant. The opportunity came about as she was nearing the end of her first semester of junior year. Her professor pulled her in and asked if she’d be interested in being a teacher’s assistant for the following semester. Edmonds accepted the position immediately. “I thought it was an exciting opportunity!” She exclaimed when speaking on her initial thoughts of the new position. Though she quickly accepted the position, she was originally nervous. However, through time, she has allowed the excitement to take over. The position will last the length of one semester, and even though it is not a paid job there are still many benefits. Edmonds is required to be present in the class two days a week and will be provided with an office where she will be available two days a week for two hour periods. A Unified Team

The Kennedy men's swim team had a meet against Dubuque Hempstead on Tuesday, Dec. 18th, 2018. The meet was filled with energy and excitement. Audrey Miller a sophomore, who has a close connection with one of the swimmers, explained she loves the environment of swim meets. “There’s always energy [and] everyone is cheering each other on,” she explained. The meet was a close loss, but the energy was high. Although the swim team lost the meet on Tuesday the team later engaged in a donut relay which they then won. The swimmers who do not participate cheer their teammates on every step of the way . It is clear the boys have a deep connection and want their teammates to succeed. When asked how she felt while witnessing the meets, Miller stated, “I look forward to seeing the people I know on the tea...

Media Law and Fake News Synthesis and Reflection

Pt.1 Media Law Concept: Libel What is it?  The written publication of a false statement that is posted in order to injure someone's reputation. The author has published this article knowing there is false or damaging content. You need to prove the falsity in order to call it libel. In order to avoid it you should check your sources and only write what you can prove. How I'll Think About it Now: After watching Shattered Glass I realized that if you're not speaking the truth it's bound to be found out. If sources are not checked and you are speaking falsely even just by accident it can put you in a troubling situation. By knowing this information I will think to recheck the sources I'm using multiple times and be sure that I'm quoting them correctly. I will write only with what I can prove. I will also think about how it is not correct to write with the intent to be malicious especially if I am using false information. Beginning a pie...

I Tried Three Mascaras with the Same Claims

Image
When I look for a mascara, I tend to fall towards ones that give more length and definition than volume. I have tested many mascaras, I have eleven in my drawer now which I know is a bit excessive. Besides those eleven I’ve tried plenty more, I’ve got a good amount of mascara experience under my belt.      I just picked up three mascaras that have similar claims and I’ve decided to compare the three of them and see which one really does as it says. They all fall under ten dollars which doesn’t mean they’ll suck, lots of affordable mascaras are great. Mascara 1: L’OrĂ©al Telescopic Original Mascara Shade: 905 Black Retail Price: $8.29 Claims: -Up to 60% length         –Flexible precision brush         –Intensifying length My Thoughts: This is definitely the most lengthening mascara I have ever tried, it also provided a good amount of definition. One ...
