A Unified Team
The Kennedy men's swim team had a meet against
Dubuque Hempstead on Tuesday, Dec. 18th, 2018. The meet was filled with energy
and excitement. Audrey Miller a sophomore, who has a close connection with one
of the swimmers, explained she loves the environment of swim meets. “There’s
always energy [and] everyone is cheering each other on,” she explained.
The meet was a close loss, but the
energy was high. Although the swim team lost the meet on Tuesday the team later
engaged in a donut relay which they then won. The donut relay consisted of
swimmers stuffing their mouths with donuts as quickly as possible and then jumping
back into the pool where they let another teammate have the same experience.
The swimmers who do not participate cheer their teammates on every step of the
way. It is clear the boys have a deep
connection and want their teammates to succeed. When asked how she felt while
witnessing the meets, Miller stated, “I look forward to seeing the people I
know on the team succeed.”
Although the team lost the meet, the
boys still found a way to enjoy their night. Cheering one another on proves
that, in the end, the score is only a number and the ties the teammates have to
one another is really what matters. The connection is what unifies the team.
